The European Parliament and Defence for Children International organised an expert online session with Professor Nowak and representatives from the European Commission, European Parliament, Members States and Civil Society Organisations. More than 80 participants joined the discussion, moderated by Saskia Bricmont, member of the European Parliament. This session provided the space to discuss how recommendations of the GS can be included in current and future legislation and reflected in EU policymaking, taking into account the current context of COVID-19 and with a particular focus on migration. In this context Manfred Nowak again strongly recommended governments to release children detained for migration-related reasons. Also Benoit Van Keirsbilck, Director of DCI-Belgium, stressed the importance of appropriately following up on the GS recommendations.
