Principles on the Prevention of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence in Detention Settings – Harvard Law School and All Survivors Project

On October 7th, the Human Rights Program from the Harvard Law School brought together academic experts, policy makers and diplomats to provide a general overview of the scope and scale of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) and discuss existing standards for the prevention of CRSV against detainees, its response and existing gaps in the normative framework. This event marked the official launch of the Principles on the Prevention of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence in Detention Settings. During the session the panelists further shared recommendations for detaining authorities in order to prevent CRSV in detention settings and identified promising practices. This event was moderated by Professor Lara Stemple and counted with the participation of experts, such as Anna Crowe, Assistant Director of the International Human Rights Clinic, Premila Patten, UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Armed Conflict and Manfred Nowak, Independent Expert of the GSCDL.
