MENA Regional Workshop on Children Deprived of Liberty

On 28th December 2020 the regional Office of Defence for Children International in the Middle East and North Africa held an online regional workshop on children deprived of liberty focusing on the recommendations from the Global Study and how to incorporate them in national plans and policies. Furthermore, the participants discussed the current situation of children in detention during the pandemic and the work that has been done in Tunisia, Palestine and Jordan, which served as case study examples. With around 40 participants, this workshop gathered together different DCI MENA sections, members from child justice sector from Arab countries, civil society institutions and other international organisations, such as Benoit Van Keirsbilck, member of the CRC Committee. Plans and priorities adopted at the national level will be discussed in a further meeting that will take place in three months.
