With more than 200 participants, the Child Rights Coalition Cambodia in collaboration with other child rights organizations[1] launched, on the 22nd of April, the Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty in Cambodia. This event brought together relevant stakeholders, including Najat Maalla M´jid, UN Special Representative of the Secretary General on Violence Against Children, H.E. Thou Sun, Secretary of the State, Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation of Cambodia, Chhin Se, Deputy Director of This Life Cambodia and Foroogh Foyouzat, from Unicef Cambodia. Manfred Nowak, as Independent Expert leading the Global Study presented the main findings and recommendations and called for the need to use alternatives to detention. In addition, the voices of children were represented at this launch, including a story of a young boy who was in prison as a child and a child representative of the Child and Youth-Led Networks who shared information on a joint statement on children deprived of liberty, which can be found in the link below.
